Agoutis are among the sole dispersers of Bertholetia sp. trees (commonly known as Brazil nuts).

Agoutis are one of few forest animals able to crack open the incredibly hard fruit capsules that contain the nuts. Without agoutis to stash -and forget-some of its seeds, these trees would be unable to disperse.
